One way of identifying spurious echoes in an ultrasonic test is:

Re-test the test piece to verify that the echoes are repeatable

Clean and re-test the teat piece to determine if the echoes can be eliminated

Use the reject control to eliminate unwanted echoes

Decrease the gain to see if the echoes can be eliminated
