Penetrant Testing
All of the following basic inspection principles apply to the visible penetrant methods except:
The penetrant must enter the discontinuity in order to form an indication.
Indications glow when illuminated with an ultraviolet light.
A longer penetration time is required for smaller discontinuities.
If the penetrant is washed out of the discontinuity, an indication will not be formed by that discontinuity.
