ensure that further operations are not performed on material that contains discontinuities that could cause rejection of the manufactured part.

determine that discontinuities do not exist in the material that could damage the rolling mills and other equipment.

determine the ductility of the material after the rolling operation is complete.

accurately determine the compressive strength of the material after it passes through the rolling mill.
